Jarno’s travelogue
Last July I (Jarno) traveled together with Michiel to Santiago in Chile, in South America. Together with our dealer Certa Chile, we visited existing and potential customers in southern Chile. The potential customers we visited now often pack their products manually and would like to automate. Among others, they pack carrots, potatoes, onions and walnuts in large bags of 20-25kg. One of these potential customers, wants to pack potatoes in 2.5kg bags. This is an emerging market in Chile, because a lot of this products are still sold unpackaged in the supermarket. We also visited existing customers, who pack walnuts in 25kg bags for export to Europe, India and North America.
Chili
We currently have several tenders for both Manter and Solidtec machines in Chile. During our visit we sold an MD14 XL with SemiPack+ and an ST30 palletizer from Solidtec to an onion producer. This is the first Solidtec machine sold in South America. Together with Michiel we discussed future plans and concluded that Chile has a lot of potential. We are excited for future business developments in Chili!
Argentina
Over the weekend Michiel and I flew to Buenos Aires, Argentina, to be picked up by Gabriel from our dealer Capei. There is political and economic unrest in Argentina because elections are approaching. The government has severely restricted the import of machines and Capei spends a lot of time and effort every day to obtain import licenses. We appreciate all the effort Capei puts in to make this situation work for both of us and we look forward to a brigth furture!
General affairs
We also visited a number of existing customers interested in a 2nd line or palletizer, as well as potential customers. For example, we had already visited an Argentinian packer, who are now ready for a new weigher and packer. At this customer Michiel and I enjoyed the offered barbecue lunch, a 7kg piece of spare ribs was put on the barbecue and prepared perfectly for us. As latest news; Capei has built a new hall to set up a complete Manter line including an MD10 XL and a SemiPack+, so customers can come by to see the line in action.
